Distractions That Hinder Goals

Distractions That Hinder GoalsNow that I have been exercising fairly regularly it has become easier to remember to keep some time for physical exercise every day, but it’s just as easy to let something get in the way.

Daily Life Distractions

Life has a habit of throwing unexpected challenges at you. We were talking about habits earlier, and how to form them. Right now I would like to break some habits the world has – but I have no control over those. My own habits can influence how I deal with them though. Becoming fit can make dealing with many of those challenges a piece of cake.

The more I cope well with difficulties in life, the better I feel mentally. Anxiety begins to lessen and worries about many things become smaller in my mind. It’s a strange mix of calm and high energy that’s difficult to describe.

I’m sure physical exertion is doing me good, but I would like to start measuring my progress now.
I think setting goals would be helpful, and give me something to aim for.

Small steps and little truimphs that deserve a pat on the back are what I have in mind.

Mindset Distractions

Don’t get me wrong. I have nothing against thinking big, aiming high and having huge life-changing ambitions, in fact having seemingly impossible dreams has proven to be the driving force behind amazing results for countless people.

All too often though, big dreams are put on the back-burner; put aside for another day while immediate problems are dealt with, and eventually discarded as impossible.
We kid ourselves it’s ok. We even tell ourselves it’s good, that we are being realistic and we are to be commended for our stoicism. People in our circle reinforce the idea by saying we are dedicated or selfless.

*Realistic
*Stoic
*Dedicated
*Selfless

Good words aren’t they?

I call them Distractions.
Watch out when all those ‘good’ words turn into obstacles, that big dream goes up in smoke.

Just like food and drink, although they sustain us, too much can be bad for you so embrace them in moderation and keep your biggest dreams alive.

Duty and Fun Distractions

It’s great for those for whom Duty and Enjoyment go hand in hand and I believe we all want to support ourselves and our families by doing something we enjoy. For many, such a life feels out of reach and remains a hope or wish for much of their lives and the misery of it distracts them from doing anything about it. They rapidly lose sight of their goals.

Every day there is so much to be done, much of which has to be done to survive,
like going to work and looking after the family, and every day we deserve to relax.

Relax. There’s another good word that can turn into a distraction.
By all means, do relax but again, choose to do so in moderation.

Setting Small Fitness Goals

Having a fit body and being healthy is an essential part of my biggest dreams. My physical fitness is important and it can’t happen all at once. Daily life goes on. That’s why it think it’s time to set smaller, achievable fitness goals.

Developing the habit of setting time aside was the first step and setting fitness goals will make the steps clearer and help to avoid those pesky distractions.

There is plenty of information about Setting Goals and breaking down the main goal into small chunks is common advice.

When you reach a not-too-distant goal it encourages you to set the next, higher goal, don’t you think? It’s such a good feeling when you discover that you can do something you thought was out of reach.

Not only do you surprise your family and friends – you surprise yourself!
